Carolyn-Grace and James have always been committed to the development and growth of young people. As youth-group leaders in their church and now as cotillion directors, they have touched the lives of many children. The Millets are Southerners who grew up in a time when learning social skills and etiquette came naturally from family, friends, schools, and religion. It was a time of a polite society. Mrs. Millet was the wife of an Air Force officer and that contributed to even more formal training. Mrs. Millet is a member of The American Association of Etiquette Professionals and is always seeking to learn newer methods of teaching and to keep abreast of updated information.
Scrapbooking is another one of her hobbies. She enjoys being with other women of like mind who share the creative spirit. “What a great way to preserve the family history. The older we get, the more valuable the scrapbooks become.” Carolyn-Grace thinks of the piano as a challenge rather than a hobby. “I do believe it would have been far easier to have started this process when I was a lot younger, say 8!” It is something she has always wanted to do, and master it she will. Reading is her “quiet hobby.” Her books are mostly on topics of self-growth, business, speaking, and of course etiquette. She enjoys collecting very old etiquette books. “That is where I get the wonderful stories to teach my young students.”
He is an avid reader with an extensive library on many topics, but one of his most favorite is anything Napoleon. A number of years back, he started collecting and painting miniature Napoleonic cavalry pieces. This is a time consuming and pains taking task to get it just right. Sometimes he is looking through a pair of magnifying glasses and then through a larger magnifying lens. He has brushes that only have one or two bristles! James is a good fix-it, build-it man and it is a good thing. Carolyn-Grace always has either a fix-it or build-it project waiting for him. Of all the things that James likes to do, his love of cooking makes everyone happy. You can tell when he is looking to be inspired because he starts perusing through their many, many cookbooks for ideas. Then when something strikes him, he closes the cookbooks, and goes into the kitchen to create. Presto, another dish is born! |

Carolyn-Grace loves gardening. Her potting shed which she calls her sanctuary has running water and a beautiful window view of the garden. There is always something to do in a garden. Early mornings will find her walking around the garden with a cup of tea.
James likes to tie his own flies and then feed them to trout. Being with nature whether it is fishing, camping or hiking with his grandchildren is always a pleasure. “Good fresh air does wonders for the mind.” Being outside is James’ remedy for most things. When his children were young and could not get along in a 2,200 s/f house, he would put the family on a 28 foot sail boat and everyone was happy!
