Parent Information

ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance is a requirement. Each lesson is a follow-up of the proceeding lesson and is a foundation for the next lesson. When a student is absent, another student does not have a partner. To be excused for illness or emergencies, it is necessary for the student to call 650-340-9860. Students are encouraged to schedule a make-up class. (See schedules and locations.) Make-ups are offered as a courtesy and sometimes cannot be accommodated. If a student misses three classes, they will be dropped from the roll. This is necessary because they have not learned enough to continue, and it is not fair to those students who have attended.

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE: To insure that every session begins promptly, we ask that students arrive 10 minutes early for instruction and sign-in. If you need to bring a student early, or will be late to pick up, please call Mrs. Millet’s cell: 650-465-7353 or email office@polite.com.

DRESS CODE: Parents will receive a notice if a student is dressed inappropiately.  A student may be sent home for inappropriate dress.

LADIES:

  • Class: Hemlines for dresses or skirts need to be below the knee. Students sit in a circle, therefore the longer the length of the skirt/dress the better.
  • No spaghetti straps, or halters, and no bra straps or stomachs showing.
  • Shoes: Mary Janes or flats/pumps are preferred, no mules. Sandals with a strap on the heel are ok up to November.

Short white gloves are only required for 6th Grade classes. Junior Manners Cotillion will have short white gloves available for sale at the September and October classes. They are $10.00 a pair. All ladies wear gloves to the Spring Ball.

Spring Ball is a formal affair requiring tea length party dress or floor length gowns.

GENTLEMEN:

  • Class: Suit, or sport coat and Dockers - Dress shirt and tie
  • Dress shoes with dark colored socks.
  • Spring Ball: A semi-formal affair requiring a tux or dark suit. Arrangements have been made with Selix. More information to follow.

CHAPERONS & TEAM MOMS: A Team Mom is needed for each class. She is the person the chaperons report to when they arrive. She instructs the chaperons as to what needs to be done (when to put out the refreshments, when to take roll, etc.) It is an easy position and moms enjoy meeting other moms and learning from the class. To learn more, please call or email the office.

Chaperons are needed at each class to help the Team Mom. Parents are asked to chaperon at least one class; more are welcomed. Four parents are needed for each class. Dads are invited. Last year we had quite a few Dads help out. Notice the convenient phone number. Office: 650-340-9860 or office@polite.com.

MEDICAL: Please notify Mrs. Millet of any medical or learning condition.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Brother Jay will be at the December event and Spring Ball. He takes individual and or group pictures. Get all dressed up and have the family picture taken. Photos will be ready at the end of the ball. No waiting! Only pay for the ones you like. Each 4x6 photo is $10.00.Suggested arrival time is 1-2 hours before your ball time. We cannot guarantee you will have time for pictures if you arrive only 30 minutes before your ball. The ball will start promptly.

DECEMBER EVENT AND SPRING BALL: We suggest that students eat before they arrive.

PARENTS HONOR DANCE: All family & friends are invited to the last 30 minutes of the ball to observe the Parents Honor Dance and the awards presentation. Mothers dance with sons and fathers dance with daughters. We will have some fun and a short instruction on the Fox Trot before the Honor Dance begins. Parent dress code: Coat & tie for Dads. Mothers are to wear dresses or skirts. No pants please.

JANUARY CLASS: Mark your calendar. ** Table manners. ** Don't miss it!

HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANTS NEEDED: We are currently taking applications for the assistant program. One male and female assistant per class is needed. Training is provided. This is a great way for high school students to earn community service credit while building confidence and learning social graces. Student Assistant Program.

GOOD DEEDS: Because Jr. Manners Cotillion is a children’s organization, we support helping other children by donating socks at the Sock Hop and baby food at the Spring Ball. Each one giving so little means so much.

BOOKKEEPING: Please do not bring your checks to the September, or any class. Mrs. Millet has been known to lose a check before getting it to the bookkeeper!!!!!!! Please mail checks, or payments may be made online with your Visa or Mastercard. Click on “Payment.”

Please remember to put us on the notification list if you have changed your address, or phone number.

CLASS BOOK: 6th Graders only. One class book is given to each 6th grade student in September. A social assignment is given each month. Parents are asked to sign off on each assignment. Students are required to bring their books to each class. Replacement for a lost book is $10.00.
