MANNERS COTILLION ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAM To be part of this program, you need to be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade by September. A. What does a Junior Manners Cotillion Assistant DO? 1. An assistant takes care of some of the details, which are a part of every class. Some of the duties are to help decorate the room, put the ribbons on the chairs, set out name badges, make sure they are worn correctly, and check attendance. 2. He or she will assist with the music, demonstrate dance steps, participate in skits, and monitor students in class, when arriving and departing. 3. When you are an assistant for the 7:15-8:45 class, you are asked to help bring containers and equipment to the van and prepare to leave. (About 15 minutes) 4. You are expected to set an example of correct behavior, and graciously discipline disruptive behavior from students. B. What does a Junior Manners Cotillion Assistant RECEIVE? 1. Training in basic dance. 2. Leadership training. 3. An opportunity to build self-confidence and self-esteem. 4. Valuable job experience. 5. Assistants earn community service credits C. To be eligible to become an assistant you must have: 1. A willingness to learn dance and social skills. 2. A school grade average of “B” or better. 3. Better than average rhythm for dancing. (Knowing your left foot from your right foot is advantageous.) 4. An outgoing personality. 5. A sincere desire to help others. 6. The approval and support of your parents. D. What you need to know: 1. There is no charge for the training. 2. There are 5 classes, a Father/Son lunch, Mother/Daughter tea and a Spring Ball from September through March. Be prepared for that commitment. 3. All assistants receive a class book, and are expected to complete each assignment by the following training class. 4. When you enter the training program, you are expected to conduct yourself with poise and grace. 5. As an assistant, you must dress appropriately to all functions. Ladies must wear skirts and blouses/sweaters, or a dress. No spaghetti straps or bra straps showing. The hemline for skirts and dresses is below the knee. Gentlemen wear a suit or sport coat and slacks/khaki pants, dress shirt/tie and dress shoes. NO ATHLETIC CLOTHING OR SHOES ALLOWED. Since we are setting the example, we are expected to be neat and well groomed. 6. Assistants are expected to arrive on time. E. Read this information, and discuss it with your parents.
